Eastern Creek – Sydney’s latest industrial growth centre

Just 35km from Sydney’s bustling CBD, the suburb of Eastern Creek is transforming into a central industrial hub in the expanding Western Sydney area. Positioned strategically at the intersection of the M4 and M7 motorways, this formerly low-population suburb is now a quickly growing area of commercial and industrial activity, establishing itself as Sydney’s next major logistics, manufacturing, and technology precinct. The area is seeing a surge in the construction of industrial parks, distribution centres, warehouses and data centres, with developers investing in modern, flexible industrial and warehouse spaces to capitalise on the region’s location and future growth.

It is impressive to see and if you have seen it first hand then chances are you have also seen Ausco’s site sheds as we work with builders creating this new hub.  It might be the next wave of infrastructure for the future but it is an age old story of scaling up a project site to get the job done. And this is something that Ausco has done many times over the last 60 years as we have quietly supported Australia’s iconic and important infrastructure development.

Industrial Transformation in Eastern Creek

Data-driven development

A combination of robust infrastructure and proximity to Sydney’s future western cities make the Eastern Creek area a perfect location to support Australia’s technology boom. The steady rollout of AI, cloud computing and high bandwidth IT systems is creating unprecedented demand for secure, robust data storage, and the need for high tech facilities to accommodate this is growing at an incredible pace.

Due to the electricity and infrastructure needs associated with running the largest Tier IV data storage facilities, operators like NextDC, Equinix, AWS and Telstra have their eyes firmly focused on new growing areas with future proof electricity grid connections and plenty of space to build flexible, custom spaces.

In Eastern Creek this has already begun, with CDC currently operating 4 self-contained data centres with another 2 under construction, which, upon completion, will make the facility one of the largest data centre ‘campuses’ in the Southern Hemisphere. Other operators are also signalling the intent to invest in the area, establishing Eastern Creek as potentially one of the most connected locations in Australia, securely linking to not only other regions in Australia but also the rest of the world.

Next Generation Logistics

It’s not just data stealing the spotlight though, rapid improvements in automation and logistics technology are changing the way that logistics work, with automation becoming widespread not only in manufacturing, but also management and distribution of bulk goods and products. Large grocery retailers such as Coles, Woolworths and Aldi are starting to roll out highly technical and complex automated distribution centres to support their stores in rapidly growing areas such as Western Sydney, while companies handling large volumes of e-commerce and mail such as Amazon, DHL, Toll and Australia Post are also sizeably increasing their footprint to accommodate growing demand for quick, high volume shipping, supported by Eastern Creek’s proximity to high capacity airport, road and rail infrastructure.
