Upgraded facilities for NSW National Parks & Wildlife
Following significant hail and flooding, the remote NSW National Parks and Wildlife depot at Boombah Point in Myall Lakes National Park sustained extensive damage which rendered several of the depot's buildings unusable. The site’s remote location, dense coastal bushland, challenging access and time constraints necessitated a temporary solution to allow the depot to continue operating. Ausco was selected to deliver a modern and modular facility, addressing these specific needs.
Within the specified timeframe, Ausco successfully mobilised a comprehensive modular solution, including accommodation facilities, a large meeting and lunchroom, an ablution block and three offices forming an operations hub. The modules were transported to the site via truck, navigating the M1 and the small town of Hawks Nest, followed by a 25-kilometre journey along Mungo Brush Side Road to the NSW National Parks and Wildlife facility. After the damaged buildings on site were demolished, Ausco's modules were efficiently installed and interconnected by a covered deck area, with the entire installation process completed safely in a single day.
Given the depot’s proximity to the largest lake system in NSW which feeds into Port Stephens, extreme care was taken to minimise the ecological impact on the surrounding environment. The installation was completed without incident, and the upgraded facilities provided by Ausco were well-received by National Parks staff, rangers, UNSW researchers and subcontractors. A request for an extra window was quickly accommodated by Ausco staff, demonstrating the customisable nature of these deployments.
This solution allows NSW National Parks and Wildlife staff as well as UNSW rangers to continue important research into near-pure dingoes in the area, while also ensuring continued protection of the area’s sensitive ecosystems.
