Beenleigh Special School (BSS) was experiencing the need for additional classroom space due to growing student enrolments. Ausco Modular was chosen by the Department of Education to provide 7 classrooms and disabled toilets while the school headed into a 14 classroom build process for the next 12-18 months.
As a special school, BSS had very specific requirements regarding classroom sizes, disability access toilet facilities, outdoor spaces and ramps.
Additionally, Ausco also came face-to-face with the challenge of designing a solution that included 30 meters covered walkways with ramping to access the building up on the oval while leading back to the school’s central spine for access.
One of Ausco’s expertise lies in providing customised solutions to clients and we were again successful in exceeding our client’s expectations by providing BSS with a modern functional design that complements their existing buildings.
In addition to providing additional classroom space, Ausco’s team constructed a central link to join the front veranda of the classrooms which resulted in flexible areas for the usage of students and staff. The school’s fire hydrant system was also upgraded to provide coverage with new access for emergency services to enter the site.
The complete handover inclusive of gaining relevant building approvals, installation of alarm systems, connection of power and sewer services etc was all completed over a 11-week timeline, right on plan. Additionally, the classrooms were also provided with PA systems and connections for interactive whiteboards to deliver on the promise of creating the perfect learning environment for the students.
