Cairns Convention Centre Expansion

Ausco provides temporary site facilities for Tier 1 builder

The Cairns Convention Centre is undergoing a $176 million expansion and renovation project to maximise and modernise the centre’s capabilities and bring new business to tropical North Queensland. The upgraded centre will have facilities to cater for multiple functions, helping the city to attract new conferences and events of even greater sizes and complexity.

After a competitive tender process, Managing Contractor Lendlease awarded the contract for temporary site facilities for the duration of the project to Ausco Modular.

Ausco’s proven experience and capability to accommodate large tier 1 builders, various certifications, social sustainability framework, Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and local presence in North Queensland were several factors which made Ausco Modular the right fit for Lendlease’s strong track record in delivering successful projects.

Over just 1.5 days, Ausco’s team installed 29 modules to accommodate the Lendlease team on site. Facilities include a 12x6 open plan office, a 12x6 meeting/induction room, multiple 6x3 lunchroom, multiple 6x3 male/female amenities, a 6x3 First Aid room, a 12x3 storage area and more.

In an additional effort to ensure the site setup was efficient as possible for the customer, twelve 12x3 covered deck modules were transported from Ausco’s Darwin branch to Cairns for the timely installation requirements.

Furniture and accessories for the office space, meeting room and lunchrooms were also provided for the customer, as well as cyclonic building tie downs to cater for potential hazardous weather conditions to ensure the site was ready to occupy immediately.

The centre’s doors are expected to reopen in 2022.
